Telecommuting Training:  Managing Performance
Previous Next

The strategy for managing performance out of the office should be the same as for managing performance in the office. To detect performance problems, collect information on a continuous basis from a number of sources: coworkers, customers, work products you've reviewed and the telecommuter. Ask for feedback rather than waiting for information to be volunteered. Use the telecommuter's proposal form to check for "early warning signs" that the arrangement might not be working.  Here are strategies for delivering constructive feedback.

Give feedback in a timely way.

Give feedback in person rather than by telephone.

Link feedback to a specific event/task and be direct with the recipient.
